Jenn: What's App Wednesday - Molecules
September 19, 2012

As some of you may know, I am currently finishing up my last year of Biochemistry. One of the exercises we are often asked to do is to visualize proteins using a program called PyMol. However, I recently stumbled upon an app called ‘Molecules’ which can do almost the same thing! It allows you to visualize compounds that you might have saved on your tablet like I do or even search up some of your own. Even if your not studying something in life sciences or chemistry, this app is really interesting if you just want to see what compounds look like.

What I love about this app is that it’s portable and that you can search up compounds right through the app which you can’t really do on PyMol… (or at least I don’t know how to). Furthermore, it still offers you different ways of viewing the compound, from ball & stick to space-filling.

Anywho, give it a try if you have some time! It even comes with a few compounds if you’re not sure what you want to look at. Happy studying everyone!
