So… a lot has changed since we last updated the blog. We kinda sorta got married! It all happened on our sixth anniversary, January 3, 2015, in Vancouver, to be exact. We like to joke around that it was a destination wedding… for the both of us! Romel flew in on the 18th of December, and Jenn arrived the next evening. Yes, you did your math right, that left us only 2 weeks to plan what will probably be one of the biggest events of our lives! We wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help of our amazing family and friends. A special thank you to our parents, our siblings (including Tiffani, Cecilia, and Cyrille), Joanne, Marc, Loraine, and Jeremy for all your hard work into making this day happen. Thank you to our wonderful wedding party for standing by our side, not only on this day, but throughout our lives. Thank you to our talented vendors for all your hard work. Thank you to our friends and family who came near and far to celebrate with us. We would also like to thank everyone who has greeted us. We really appreciate all the love and support you have given us along the way!

Instead of going through every single detail of the day, we came up with a few questions that we answered from each of our perspectives. If you have any other questions, feel free to leave them in the comments!

What would you say was the inspiration for the wedding?

Romel: The Main inspiration we had for the wedding was to try incorporate the street that has the most meaning to us especially since we aren’t in Vancouver.

Jenn: When we first started dating, I was so sure we were going to have a Super Mario-themed wedding. But, since I already used that up on my 18th birthday party, I didn’t want to do it again… making those question mark boxes took forever! When we got engaged, I knew for sure that I wanted it to have a Main Street theme. The street has so much meaning to us – from where we met at high school, to where we got engaged, to where we were getting married, to where we both live, grew up, studied, frequently ate… you name it. We tried to incorporate the Main Street theme as much as we could – for example: the street sign table numbers created by my family, the Main Street themed dessert table, and the Main Street inspired seating chart. As you can also tell, I’m a huge sucker for rose gold. Hence, rose + golds everywhere! Lastly, since we were having a winter wedding, I wanted to have hints of holiday through the addition of wreath place cards, snowflakes, and a hot chocolate bar!

What one moment will last with you forever?

Romel: It’s a little bit cliche,  but the one moment that will last with me forever is when Jenn walked down the aisle. It’s really hard to explain but as soon as she was walking down the aisle a sudden rush of a lot of emotions came and my eyes started watering and tears started going down my face. I was really hoping not to cry but in the end I did. It was one of the happiest moments ever, seeing the woman you love in her dress, coming down getting ready to say your vows and I do’s. She was absolutely gorgeous walking down that aisle.

Jenn: Since Romel already covered the walking down the aisle moment, I would have to say that the one moment that will last with me forever is our first dance. Originally, I had thought we were going to dance to All of Me by John Legend because we didn’t feel that the Mario Kart Love Song would be appropriate. But when the Mario Kart Love Song started playing, it just felt right since that’s how this whole thing began. I loved that we both (or at least I tried to) sing the song to each other while we were dancing. Hopefully the videographer doesn’t have my voice recorded!

What was your favourite wedding detail?

Romel: My favorite wedding detail was the amazing dessert backdrop that I put together (and Jenn conspired). I thought it was going to be an impossible task but I was glad that it turned out the way it did. Although I do regret not being able to create the moving clouds and forgot to do the street sign. I know it would’ve looked a lot better but under the time constraints I’m really glad about how it turned out.

Jenn: It’s hard to just pick one! I really loved how the wreath place cards turned out (thanks to Rose from Michael’s Broadway for helping us out with finding the last 5 packs of tinsel left in the Lower Mainland! You seriously saved the wedding.) I also loved the snowflakes that my mom spent months making and the beautiful frames that my brother’s fiancee designed for us! I also loved the gold street signs that my brother, mom, and dad put together and I designed!

Is there anything you would’ve changed or done differently?

Romel: No I really don’t think so. Aside from a few minor things in terms of the decor, there really isn’t anything I would change. I felt as though this truly was “our” wedding. We made it as much as “us” as we could. Also probably schedule things a little bit better! We were running a little late during most of the day but we are Filipino’s of course.

Jenn: There are many details that I would have liked to add given we had more time. But I don’t think I would have changed anything! I agree with Romel in that I wish we had scheduled things a little better and that we had more time! Can we go back and relive it again?

What advice would you give to future brides/grooms?

Romel: Get married on the same date as your anniversary. It’s one less date to remember. Except if you forget you will be forever in the dog house. Also buy a Silhouette or a Cricut. Best machines ever.

Jenn: Don’t get married on the same date as your anniversary if that date is less than a year away, your fiance moved to San Francisco for work, and you moved to Toronto for school. Also, make sure to put time into all aspects of the wedding! I think I was a little to preoccupied on how everything looked and wish I had spent more time on the wedding program (which my brother made up for!) and our speech (there were so many things I wish I had said!).

Lastly, make sure you have an awesome maid of honour and bridesmaids! I honestly wouldn’t have done it without mine (as well as our amazing families). My maid of honour definitely went above and beyond and did not miss a single dress fitting, cake testing, floral meeting, you name it. Thank you so much for always being by my side, stuffing me with doughnuts!
